Kara Synhorst
Licensed Therapist, LCSW-S
Tucson
Kara believes that each person is both the leader and the driving force of their own life. Her work centers around helping individuals explore important questions such as: What do you truly want and need? What brings you joy, pleasure, and peace amidst personal or larger-scale chaos? What changes are you willing to make, and what values guide your life?
Kara welcomes the opportunity to walk alongside clients as they explore these questions and discover their own answers. She places strong importance on authentic human connection and believes that a strong “goodness of fit” between therapist and client is essential for meaningful therapeutic work.
She has developed valuable therapeutic relationships with adults from diverse backgrounds, ages, identities, and diagnostic experiences. Kara’s personal and professional philosophies are rooted in intersectional and trauma-informed care.
Kara also brings lived experience to her work as a peer with mental health diagnoses and physical disability, and as someone in recovery from substance use. She thoughtfully integrates these experiences into her therapeutic approach to support others on their healing journeys.
Her clinical approach draws from several evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and narrative-inspired work. She also has a growing interest in incorporating somatic-based approaches into her practice.
Kara recognizes that searching for a therapist can feel overwhelming, and she honors the courage it takes to begin that process. She views the act of seeking support as a powerful expression of self-care and self-love.
